The Process

Treatment begins with a thorough double cleanse to lift away impurities, oil, and residual makeup, preparing the skin for what follows. A gentle steaming and softening step then opens the pores and loosens congestion, allowing extractions to be performed with greater precision and comfort.

Our therapists carry out careful, considered extractions of blackheads, whiteheads, and milia using precise, hygienic tools suited to each area of congestion — deliberate, never rushed, for thorough results without compromising skin health.

Protecting the skin’s barrier remains a priority throughout, with a measured approach that softens congestion before extraction to minimise irritation and support a smoother recovery.

To finish, calming Korean skincare formulations soothe and replenish the skin, reducing redness and sensitivity, and leaving your complexion balanced, hydrated, and visibly refreshed.

What Can (and Can't) Be Extracted

Milia are small, hard, white bumps that form when keratin becomes trapped beneath the skin’s surface — most commonly around the eyes, forehead, and cheeks. Unlike acne, milia aren’t caused by clogged pores and are completely harmless, though many clients seek removal for cosmetic reasons.

Milia can appear spontaneously (common in babies and often resolving on its own over time) or develop as a result of skin damage such as sun exposure, injury, or heavy skincare products — these tend to be longer-lasting and typically require treatment to clear.

Blackheads (also known as open comedones) are small, dark bumps that form when excess oil and dead skin cells become trapped within a pore. Unlike whiteheads, the pore remains open, causing the trapped debris to oxidise on contact with air — giving blackheads their characteristic dark colour. They most commonly appear around the nose, chin, and T-zone, where oil production tends to be highest.

Blackheads can be caused by a combination of factors, including excess sebum production, hormonal changes, and the buildup of dead skin cells or product residue within the pores. Because oil production is ongoing, blackheads tend to recur over time and often benefit from regular, professional maintenance rather than a single treatment.

Important: Blackheads should never be squeezed or picked at home, as improper extraction can push debris deeper into the pore, leading to inflammation, infection, or scarring.

Whiteheads (also known as closed comedones) are small, flesh-coloured or white bumps that form when oil and dead skin cells become trapped within a pore that stays closed at the surface. Unlike blackheads, the pore isn’t exposed to air, so the trapped debris doesn’t oxidise — giving whiteheads their pale appearance. They commonly appear on the forehead, chin, and cheeks.

Whiteheads are typically caused by excess oil production, hormonal fluctuations, and a buildup of dead skin cells that block the pore opening. Because the blockage sits just beneath a closed pore, whiteheads can be more stubborn to clear than blackheads and often require professional extraction for effective removal.

Sebaceous filaments are small, naturally occurring structures that line the inside of pores, helping channel oil (sebum) to the skin’s surface. They often appear as tiny grey or light brown dots, most noticeably around the nose and chin, and can look similar to blackheads — though they’re a normal part of healthy skin function, not a blockage or blemish.

Unlike blackheads, sebaceous filaments can’t be permanently removed, as they’re a structural part of the pore itself and will naturally refill with oil over time. Extractions or treatments can temporarily reduce their appearance and minimise congestion, but regrowth is expected as part of normal skin function.

Important: Sebaceous filaments should never be aggressively squeezed or extracted at home, as this can enlarge or damage the pore over time, making it appear more prominent rather than less.

Frequently asked Questions

Not quite. While a regular facial focuses on general cleansing and relaxation, an extraction facial specifically targets blackheads, whiteheads, and milia through manual extraction — making it a more targeted, results-driven treatment for congested skin.

Most clients experience mild pressure or slight discomfort during extractions, particularly on more congested areas, but the process is generally well-tolerated. Our therapists work carefully to minimize discomfort while still achieving thorough results.

Results typically last several weeks, though this varies depending on skin type, congestion levels, and skincare routine. We recommend treatments every 4–6 weeks to maintain clear, balanced skin over time.

We recommend avoiding makeup for at least 24 hours post-treatment to allow the skin to settle and reduce the risk of irritation or clogged pores.
