Treatment Chin Crease (Mental Crease)

The horizontal crease on the chin (the mental crease) becomes deeper in some people as they age. This can be due to overuse of the mentalis muscle and leads to shortening the length of the chin. The crease itself can appear unattractive. However, a shorter chin in proportion to the other facial features is especially aging. Therefore relaxing the muscle responsible for the mental crease can make you look more attractive and youthful.

Anti-wrinkle injections are the first-line treatment for chin creases / mental creases. Chin fillers are another option used to improve the area further.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections for Chin Dimpling (Chinulite)

The chin can become less smooth as you age and lose bone and soft tissue on the face, with dimpling and a bobbly appearance. This is exaggerated when you speak, with the dimpling standing out with specific mouth movements.

Muscle relaxing injections into the mentalis muscle can be used to treat dimpled chin. Unfortunately, chin fillers do not assist significantly in the treatment of chinulite.

Treatment of a Shortened Chin from Aging.

Overactivity of the mentalis muscle causes a shortening of the chin length as you age. Relaxing the mentalis muscle with anti-wrinkle injections reduces the dimpling of the chin and lessens a chin crease. It can also drop the anterior projection of the chin downward.

Potential Side Effects of Chin Anti-Wrinkle Injections:

All side effects are temporary and do wear off.

Bruising, swelling and redness at the site are possible but generally minimal.
If too high a dose is used, or products migrate to adjacent muscles, it can cause a crooked smile, the inability to approximate lower lip against the teeth and dribbling.

The mentalis muscle is a two-bellied muscle that originates beneath the lip and travels down to attach to the jawline on either side of the midline. The mentalis – elevates the skin of the base of the lower lip, helping to force the lower lip against the gums. It also contributes to depressing, protruding and everting the lower lip during eating and speaking.
