What is a Hydrofacial?

The key to hyrafacial success is combining exfoliation, extraction, and serum infusion into one seamless treatment. These facials deeply cleanse, exfoliate, hydrate, and nourish the skin, leaving it refreshed and glowing. Hydrofacial (also referred to as a Hydrafacial, Aquafacial, Aqua peel Facial, or Water Peel Facial) is a non-invasive, multi-step skin treatment based on the principles of hydrodermabrasion.

Who Benefits from a Hydrofacial?

This treatment is designed for all skin types and concerns, such as:

  • Oily and congested skin
  • Enlarged or congested and clogged pores
  • Acne and breakouts
  • Dehydration and dryness
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Ageing skin concerns.
  • Uneven skin tone and pigmentation and brown spots
  • Sensitive and rosacea-prone skin
  • Uneven skin tone or texture

Using the AQUAPURE Medical Hydrodermabrasion System, our Hydrofacial treatments are tailored to meet individual skin needs. Here’s a breakdown of our Hydrafacials:

Hydrofacials  at Pearl Medispa

Korean Hydrofacial

1. Start – Double Cleanse Your AquaFacial begins with a thorough double cleanse to remove makeup, sunscreen, and impurities. This deep cleansing step eliminates debris and expired skin cells, addressing congestion, dullness, and uneven tone or texture while preparing your skin for the next steps.

  • Skin1004 Centella Oil Cleanser: Dissolves makeup and excess oil.
  • Skin1004 Foam Ampoule Cleanser (pH 5): Gentle and soothing, featuring Centella Asiatica for barrier support.

2. Hydrodermabrasion + Serum Infusion combines three powerful modalities—exfoliation, extraction, and serum infusion—into one revitalising session. This process deeply cleanses, exfoliates, and infuses hydrating serums to replenish moisture, deliver active ingredients, and rejuvenate the skin. The result is a radiant, hydrated glow and a refreshed revitalised appearance.

  • Exfoliation sloughs surface skin cells, increases skin cell turnover, and hydrates. The active ingredients are lactic Acid, Glucosamine HCI, galactomyces ferment filtrate, and Hizikia Jelly Extract.
  • Extraction: This step clears pores and targets oily and congested skin. It balances sebum levels, brightens the skin, and smooths rough textures. The active ingredients are salicylic Acid, Zinc PCA, Phytosphingosine, and Honey Extract.
  • Serum Infusion   Delivers antioxidants, peptides, and actives to nourish, hydrate, and promote collagen production. The active ingredients are sodium hyaluronate, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, hydrolysed Collagen, and Centella Asiatica extract.

3. Finish – Barrier Repair and Protect

Finish your Hydrofacial with:

  • Barrier Repair: Depending on your primary concern, this step is targeted with Centella Soothing Cream (sensitive, rosacea, or inflamed skin) or Probio-Cica Enrich Cream (Anti-aging), Poremising for pore control, Tone Brightening if pigment is your main concern, or Tea-Trica for skin that tends to acne. All with Centella Asiatica to calm and protect the skin.
  • (Additional Addon) Korean Sheet Mask and LED Therapy: Inflammation settling + hydration boost or collagen boost.
  • Finish with a mineral sunscreen.

Pearl Lift Hydrofacial

Our  Pearl Lift Hydrofacial  includes the full hydrafacial with three additional steps designed for facial firming:

1. Start – Double Cleanse

2. Hydrodermabrasion + Serum Infusion

3. Electroporation: Creates a direct pathway to the skin cell membrane, enabling deep transdermal delivery of the serum solutions. This enhances absorption and maximizes the effectiveness of beneficial ingredients for superior results.

4. Tighten & Lift: Utilizing low-level microcurrent therapy, this step stimulates blood circulation and targets facial muscles, boosting collagen and elastin production for a subtle lifting and firming effect, leaving the skin looking firmer and more youthful

5. Cool & Repair: The final step involves applying cooling energy at -5°C to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, inflammation, and redness while promoting skin repair. Alternatively, gentle heating can enhance blood circulation and stimulate repair. This soothing finishing step leaves the skin calm, refreshed, and radiant while alleviating sensitivity and supporting recovery.

6. Finish – Barrier Repair + Protect

The Hydrafacial is an innovative skin treatment that addresses multiple skin concerns simultaneously. It’s a gentle yet effective procedure suitable for all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin.

  1. Exfoliating: Removes dead skin cells to reveal a fresh, smooth layer.
  2. Deep Pore Cleansing: Uses painless suction to extract dirt, oil, and impurities.
  3. Chemical Peeling: Delivers a mild peel to stimulate skin renewal.
  4. Hydration: Infuses the skin with hyaluronic acid, peptides, and antioxidants for intense moisture.
  5. Nourishment: Delivers essential nutrients to repair and protect your skin barrier.

For optimal skin health:

  • Initial Phase: Treatments every 2–3 weeks to deeply repair and rejuvenate.
  • Maintenance Phase: Monthly sessions to sustain results and maintain hydration.

We also offer annual subscription packages, providing consistent care and value for long-term results.

Unlike traditional facials or microdermabrasion, a Hydrofacial uses advanced vortex or spiral technology to deeply cleanse, extract, and infuse the skin with nutrients. It delivers more comprehensive results by combining:

  • Gentle Exfoliation: Achieving smooth skin without irritation.
  • Deep Cleansing: Removing impurities from pores.
  • Active Ingredient Infusion: Hydrating and nourishing skin for long-lasting effects.

A Hydrofacial is a no-downtime, non-invasive treatment that combines exfoliation, extractions and serum infusion in one seamless treatment. Using advanced technology, it delivers antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid to rejuvenate the skin, leaving it smoother and more radiant.

Hydrofacials address a range of concerns, including:

  • Improved skin tone and texture
  • Hydration for dry skin
  • Reduced appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and pores
  • Enhanced vibrancy and brightness
  • Minimized congestion and acne

The hydration and smoothness from a Hydrafacial can last 5–7 days or longer after the first session. With regular treatments, results become more long-lasting.

Not at all. A Hydrofacial is a relaxing treatment with no discomfort or downtime, making it an excellent choice for those with busy lifestyles. It involves:

  1. Gentle Exfoliation for All Skin Types
    • Aqua peel facials use specialized handpieces with vortex-like tips that combine chemical exfoliation (using salicylic, lactic, and glycolic acids) and hydrodermabrasion.
    • This dual-action process is designed to be gentle enough for sensitive skin, making it a go-to treatment for people prone to redness or irritation.
  2. Targeted Infusion of Serums
    • Aqua peels incorporate Korean skincare principles, infusing the skin with serums rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and hydrating agents like glycerin and hyaluronic acid.
    • The infusion step restores moisture and delivers nutrients, leaving skin refreshed and radiant.
  3. Customisable Add-Ons
    • Add-ons often include sheet masks, LED therapy, or Gua Sha soothing massage to enhance the experience and address specific skin concerns.

Definitions and History

Edge Systems Corporation first developed the HydraFacial in the United States in the 1990s, featuring its trademarked vortex technology. This treatment quickly gained popularity for its ability to combine exfoliation, extraction, and serum infusion in one session. This is trademarked and refers to this particular type of hydrofacial.

However, South Korea has played a significant role in refining and innovating this treatment. Known for its advancements in aesthetic medicine, South Korea developed more affordable alternatives like the Aqua Peel Facial and Aquapure Hydrofacial. These innovations:

  • Focus on long-term skin health with customizable solutions.
  • Incorporate additional technologies like micro-current stimulation and cooling massage.
  • Make advanced treatments accessible without sacrificing efficacy.

While the terms seem confusing, they all share a foundation in hydrodermabrasion—using water-based exfoliation instead of abrasive materials, seamlessly combining exfoliation, extraction, and serum infusion. Here’s a breakdown:

  • Hydrafacial: A trademarked term developed in the U.S. with patented technology. Machines and solutions are often more expensive.
  • Hydrofacial: A general term often used interchangeably with Hydrafacial, describing similar treatments without specific trademarked technology.
  • Hydrodermabrasion Facial: A descriptive term focusing on the water-based exfoliation action, not a distinct treatment.
  • Aquapeel refers to the exfoliation step involving acids like lactic or salicylic acid, used in both Hydrafacial and Korean innovations.
  • Aqua Peel Facial/Water Peel Facial: These terms originated in Korea to describe hydrodermabrasion treatments, often with affordable, innovative twists.
  • Aquapure Hydrofacial: This term refers explicitly to the Korean-developed technology we use at Pearl Medispa.
  • Aquafacial: A term that refers explicitly to Skinstitute hydrafacial treatment.
